Student Summer Job Fair Tues Jan 22--BAR-T added!!!

Hello GHS Students!!  In all this snow, it IS time to start thinking about your summer plans! Local businesses and the local governments are looking NOW for students to hire!  


Please come to GHS Tuesday, January 22, at 6:30 pm to visit the vendors below and inquire about jobs and internships AND ITS FREE!  The job fair will be held in Trophy Hall outside the Main gym. 

Then—stay and watch YOUR GAITHERSBURG VARSITY BOYS take on Quince Orchard at 7:15 pm.  (You do NOT need to purchase a ticket to the game to attend the job fair.)

GHS PTSA Meeting Date Change

The GHS PTSA is changing the date of our next meeting to WEDNESDAY February 27 at 6:30 pm. This is to accomodate our guest speaker, Detective Miranda of the Montgomery County Police.  She will be presenting information to parents on fraud, identity theft and scams.  Please mark your calendars! 


Important Senior SSL Information

The Certificate of Meritorious Service Award is an award given to seniors who have earned over 260 Student Service Learning hours by April 5th of their senior year.  Seniors will earn a purple tassel they may wear at graduation to distinguish themselves for earning this award. In order to receive this honor, all SSL hours need to be submitted to the GHS SSL Coordinator no later than Friday April 5, 2019.

Announcements for Jan 16

  •  Today and tomorrow, we will be having a modified schedule.  Wednesday will be periods 1, 3, 7, and 8.  Thursday we will have periods 2, 4, 6, and 8.  Classes will be between 90 and 65 minutes long.   This is to accommodate Progress Checks in Math. 
  •    PODER will meet tomorrow, and every Thursday in Mr. O’Connell’s room, room 3016. This is a great club for young men who are interested in community service, leadership and fellowship. It is a great way to earn SSL hours, make new friends, and make a real difference here in the Gaithersburg community. Come on up to room 3016 and see what it is all about! 
  • Student Union meets tomorrow during lunch in room 1114.  Come for pizza and to learn about upcoming trips & SSL hours.  New students are welcome.   
  •  UMTTR meeting tomorrow in room 3007, everyone welcome to our amazing club.  
  •  International night will be on April 26th and auditions will be held Tuesday February 19th through February 21st in the PAC from 2:30 to 4:30. Students should show up with music choice and costumes if possible and be show-ready with performances not exceeding 2 minutes. If you have any questions please ask Mrs. Enid linger in room 3010 or Mrs. Caraballo in room 3018.   


As previously announced: 

  • GHS Gives Clothing Store is now open.   Do you need clothes, coats, shoes, or other personal items.  Come to the GHS Gives Store to select items free of charge.  Scan the QR code and fill out the form.  If you have any questions please contact Ms. Porter Parks in room 3000. 
  • Don’t forget the media center is open for extended hours after school for students and their families on Mondays thru Thursdays until 4:00. Come study, do your homework, get extra help & tutoring. See Mr. Harper for details.   
  • The Media Center will be closed for PARCC testing starting Monday, January 7th through Thursday, January 24th and again on Wednesday, January 30th through Friday, February 1st.  As a reminder, this is a secured test.  Please refrain from sending students with passes or to collect print jobs until testing is over. The book drop assistant will be outside the media center doors to receive returned books during this time.   
  • The Pride Alliance will have another speaker at lunch on January 18th at lunch in Room 1123.
  •   The National Honor Society is hosting a Winter Accessory Drive! If you have any new or gently used scarves, gloves, mittens, hats, socks, snow boots, or earmuffs, please bring them by the collection box in the main office.  All donations will be accepted until January 18th.   
  •  Attention Juniors, so you want a partial day schedule next year?  Do you want to have a work experience in your preferred career field?  Do you want to you to take a class that will look great on your resume, college and scholarship applications and interviews?  Of course you do!  Then internship is the perfect class for you.  Internship applications are still available and are located outside of room 3040.  They can also be downloaded from the GHS website.  Pick one up and complete it now so that next year, you are not only a student, you are an intern as well.  The deadline to submit the application is Feb. 28th, 2019.  Please note that in order for you to be a part of the internship program next year you must have it on your schedule BEFORE the summer break begins! If you have any questions, please see Ms. Shaw in room 3040.   
  •  Are you a senior who could earn the “Certificate of Meritorious Service” award?  This is an award given to seniors who have earned over 260 SSL hours by April 5th 2019.  If you earn over 260 hours, you will receive a purple tassel at the senior awards banquet this spring that you may wear on your cap at graduation. This is an automatic award that you will receive if you submit all SSL hours to Mrs. Turner in the Girls PE office by the April 5th deadline.   
  • Are you interested in joining a club? Do you want you’re parents to love you? Are you interested in going to college? Then SAT Club is the one for you. Come by room 3066 Wednesdays during lunch to prepare for this major test. 
  •  Kindness Week at GHS is all of this week. Today is Smile day – Smile to at least 25 people and say hello.  Thursday is Make A New Friend Day- Sit with someone new at lunch, find someone who is sitting alone and make a new friend. And Friday is Kindness Note - Write a note to a staff member or friend and tell them how much you appreciate them.  
  •  The Spanish Honor Society will be having a meeting today, Wednesday January 16th in room 3007 during lunch.
