Important Senior SSL Information 

The Certificate of Meritorious Service Award is an award given to seniors who have earned over 260 Student Service Learning hours by April 5th of their senior year.  Seniors will earn a purple tassel they may wear at graduation to distinguish themselves for earning this award. In order to receive this honor, all SSL hours need to be submitted to the GHS SSL Coordinator no later than Friday April 5, 2019.

  • Are you interested in joining a club? Do you want you’re parents to love you? Are you interested in going to college? Then SAT Club is the one for you. Come by room 3066 Wednesdays during lunch to prepare for this major test. 
  • Kindness Week at GHS is all of next week. Monday is Compliment day - Say something nice to someone you know or someone you would like to be friends with. Tuesday is Helping Hand Day -  Pick up litter during lunch and show kindness to the building service people who work so hard. Wednesday is Smile day – Smile to at least 25 people and say hello.  Thursday is Make A New Friend Day- Sit with someone new at lunch, find someone who is sitting alone and make a new friend. And Friday is Kindness Note - Write a note to a staff member or friend and tell them how much you appreciate them.   
  • Are you interested in studying abroad?  Do you want information about National programs open to students all over the nation?  New languages?  Hear from a former GHS student, Rene' Ayala, a National Gilman Scholar and POSSE Scholar about STUDY ABROAD programs.  She will be here at Showtime, Tuesday, Jan.15.  Register in Naviance to attend!  Please print your registration as your PASS!  If you have any questions please contact Ms. Sliffman in the College Career Center

  • GHS Gives Clothing Store is now open.   Do you need clothes, coats, shoes, or other personal items.  Come to the GHS Gives Store to select items free of charge.  Scan the QR code and fill out the form.  If you have any questions please contact Ms. Porter Parks in room 3000. 
  • Don’t forget the media center is open for extended hours after school for students and their families on Mondays thru Thursdays until 4:00. Come study, do your homework, get extra help & tutoring. See Mr. Harper for details.   
  • Need help with your writing or just a quiet place to work? Come to the GHS Writing Center. We are in Room 2003 every day at lunchtime and on Tuesdays and Thursdays during ShowTime. For your ShowTime pass, stop by Room 2096E any day before or after school. 
  • The Media Center will be closed for PARCC testing starting Monday, January 7th through Thursday, January 24th and again on Wednesday, January 30th through Friday, February 1st.  As a reminder, this is a secured test.  Please refrain from sending students with passes or to collect print jobs until testing is over. The book drop assistant will be outside the media center doors to receive returned books during this time.   
  • The Pride Alliance will have another speaker at lunch on January 18th at lunch in Room 1123.
  •  The National Honor Society is hosting a Winter Accessory Drive! If you have any new or gently used scarves, gloves, mittens, hats, socks, snow boots, or earmuffs, please bring them by the collection box in the main office.  All donations will be accepted until January 18th.   
  • If you're looking for a club to get involved with, then Link Generations may be the one for you. Link Generations offers the unique opportunity to interact with older adults and other students in the community. You get one SSL hour for every meeting you participate in, and there's snacks, too. If you have questions, contact Ms. Chevalier. Our next meeting will be Thursday, January 10th in Room 3005 during lunch. 
  • Did you earn any SSL hours during the 1st or 2nd quarter? If so, then you need to turn in the SSL form as soon as possible to Mrs. Turner in the Girls PE office. She will still accept hours through the end of this week…this Friday is the last day.  
  • Attention Juniors, so you want a partial day schedule next year?  Do you want to have a work experience in your preferred career field?  Do you want to you to take a class that will look great on your resume, college and scholarship applications and interviews?  Of course you do!  Then internship is the perfect class for you.  Internship applications are still available and are located outside of room 3040.  They can also be downloaded from the GHS website.  Pick one up and complete it now so that next year, you are not only a student, you are an intern as well.  The deadline to submit the application is Feb. 28th, 2019.  Please note that in order for you to be a part of the internship program next year you must have it on your schedule BEFORE the summer break begins! If you have any questions, please see Ms. Shaw in room 3040.

Athletic House has opened up an on-line store for GHS Letterman jackets.  Please feel free to contact Athletic House directly if you want to schedule a time to try on. This isn't a fundraiser for GHS...this jacket is being offered at cost. To order, check out THIS LINK.

After Prom Welcomes Re-Gifting! Happy Holidays!  As you are finalizing your gift purchases or find some items received are just not you, please think of After Prom 2019.   We don’t shame anyone for re-gifting.  Last year we gave over $8000 worth of items away all from donated items from GHS family and friends and local stores and restaurants. Prizes are things your kids would want like gift cards to restaurants, retail stores, Amazon, or gas stations, any type of college wear from any school, movie passes, dorm items- pillows, chairs, throws, little appliances, electronics, Redskins, Ravens, Orioles, Nationals, Capital, Wizards items. Once you have prizes to donate, please contact Suzanne Walsh suzannewalsh65 at hotmail dot com to make arrangements for collection.
