 FINAL GHS PTSA Meeting of the 2018-2019 School year TONIGHT, TUE 5/21The GHS PTSA wraps up the year with their last meeting next Tuesday, May 21st.  After a brief business meeting to vote in the slate of officers for the 2019-2020 school year, we will be hearing from the Montgomery County Police Gang Unit. See you TONIGHT 6:30 pm in the GHS Media Center.
After Prom a HUGE success! A HUGE shout out to Melissa Benowitz, After Prom Chair for all her work in having a wonderful After Prom!  We had an awesome crew of parents who worked ALL year to make this event a success. Thank you ALL for an uneventful Prom Night!
TESTING this week at GHS! PARCC / MISA / and HSA testing will go from Monday, May 20th through Friday May 31st. Make-ups will occur throughout the testing window which ends on Friday May 31st.  The exams will be as follows:  -    Monday, May 20th and Tuesday, May 21st :   PARCC ELA for all English 10 classes -    Monday May 20 and Tuesday May 21st:    MISA Science exam for Grade 11 students who need to meet the Science graduation testing requirement.  -    Wednesday May 22nd and Thursday May 23rd:    NSL Government and AP Government classes will test on for the Government High School Assessment (HSA) exam  **NOTE: If your student isn't taking one of the above tests, they do not need to arrive to school until  the start of Period 1 (or Period 6 on Tuesday 5/21). **Students who need to ride the bus--Buses run at a normal time.  Students will be asked to remain in the cafeteria during the testing window.

  • Are you interested in dance?  Come out and see the magical rendition of Alice and wonderland on June 6 after school in the PAC lobby from 6:30-7:30pm.  If you are interested in contributing to the show, see Ms. Walston, Ms. Brown, or Ms. Bledsoe for more details.  There will be signup sheets on the bulletin boards hope to see you there!   
  • Attention students who received a BLUE testing notice! Please remember to bring your own headphones for the PARCC and HSA exams. Bluetooth or wireless devices will not work. You must be able to plug your headphones into the desktop computer or Chromebook. Thank you! 
  • Yearbook are in! If you haven't received your yearbook go to room 1069 and see Mrs. Keres. There are still yearbook available, if you would like to purchase a yearbook see Mrs. Keres. Yearbook are $96. Seniors can only pay cash for a yearbook.
  • Gaithersburg High School will be hosting the 1st-Annual Gaithersburg Soccer Jamboree on May 29th!  Participants will receive custom t-shirt jerseys and food will be provided by Jimmy John’s. The winning team will be awarded medals.  This event is totally free, but space is limited.  If you are interested in playing in the Soccer Jamboree, get your team of 7 players together and pick up a permission form in The Wellness Center. 
  • Come out and support Flags for Our Heroes by helping to set up the flags at Bohrer Park. Lots of hands are needed to make this a successful event. Help is need after school on Wednesday and Thursday May 22nd and 23rd. Meet at Bohrer Park right after school. Questions---- stop by Ms. Nardin's room in 1115.
  •  Need help with your writing or just a quiet place to work? Come to the GHS Writing Center. We are in Room 2003 every day at lunchtime and on Tuesdays and Thursdays during ShowTime. For your ShowTime pass, stop by Room 2096E any day before or after school.   
  • All students interested in joining the 2019 Cross Country team this fall should attend an interest meeting with Coach Tolbert on Thursday, May 23rd at 11:35.  The meeting is being held in the gymnasium during lunch.  Coach Tolbert.

Prom night has lots of temptations for some not so great decisions for our juniors and seniors. Family with students at GHS & GMS students needs help!Unfortunately, last week, a family with an 8th grader at GMS and a 10th grader at GHS had a major fire at their home and have been displaced. The GMS & GHS PTSAs have offered to collect gift cards from Target, Kohl's, Giant/Safeway for the family, as many of their belongings were destroyed by fire or water damage.  There will be a box in GHS' Main Office starting tomorrow, May 14th for collecting of gift cards.  Questions about how else you can help?   • Attention Seniors!  Signature Academy graduation cords will be on sale in the cafeteria during lunch from May 14th to May 17th.  To be eligible to purchase a cord, you must have completed 3 credits within your academy and a capstone.  A capstone can be any one of the following: an AP class, a CI class, or a yearlong internship.  Each cord will be $10.   
  • Do you need or want SSL hours?  If so, there is an opportunity at Laytonsville Elementary School to assist with their Spring Festival and help with concessions, games and crafts.  Please see Mrs. Turner in the Girls P.E. office for details and how to sign up.

The cost us $5 and may be purchased from Mrs. Domeshek in 3003 before or after school and during lunch. 
  • Staff & students, please do not accept checks from seniors as a form of payment for anything.  Seniors may pay in cash, money order, or with a debit/credit card online. If you have any questions please meet with Ms. Hudson in the business office, next to the main office. 
  •  The math department would like to remind students to return any borrowed items, including calculators and textbooks.  Textbooks should be returned to the teacher who distributed them, likely their Semester A teacher.  Calculators should be returned to Ms. Sabatino in the Math Office, room 3083.  Obligations will be filled out for any missing item on Friday, May 17th, after the AP exams.  Seniors- outstanding obligations may impact receiving your cap and gown!   
  • Anyone interested in purchasing Spiritwear?  The Booster club will be selling spiritwear on Fridays during lunch in the cafeteria.  Please bring cash or check to purchase your gear.

  • Seniors, the counseling offices needs to know what you will be doing after you Graduate. Will you be attending a community college? A 4 year college? Will you be working? Will you be attending a technical school? Will you be joining the Armed Forces? No matter what you are doing after graduation, you must turn in the final transcript request form. This form can be found in the counseling office. Please see Mrs. Koenick for questions.

  • UMTTR meeting TODAY in room 3012 at lunch, everyone is welcomed. 
  • Student Union meets today during lunch in room 1114.  Come for pizza and to learn about upcoming trips & SSL hours.  New students are welcome.

 Family with GHS & GMS students needs help!

Unfortunately, last week, a family with an 8th grader at GMS and a 10th grader at GHS had a major fire at their home and have been displaced. The GMS & GHS PTSAs have offered to collect gift cards from Target, Kohl's, Giant/Safeway for the family, as many of their belongings were destroyed by fire or water damage.  There will be a box in GHS' Main Office starting tomorrow, May 14th for collecting of gift cards.  Questions about how else you can help?   • Attention seniors the deadline for the Certificate of Meritorious Service was April 1st.  The deadline for all other seniors SSL hours is Friday, May 3rd.  This is a friendly reminder that you must have all of your SSL hours turned in by May 3rd in order to graduate.  
  • Students are you registered to vote?  Interested in earning up to $210 or 25 SSL hours during the 2020 Presidential Elections?  If so, the Montgomery County Board of Elections will be on campus during lunch May 7th & 8th.  You must be a U.S. citizen and at least 16 years old by April 7, 2020. To sign-up, bring your Maryland ID, driver’s license, learner's permit or know the last four digits of your Social Security number.   • The Pride Alliance is having a speaker on May 3rd, everyone is welcome to attend. 
  • Attention Seniors!  Signature Academy graduation cords will be on sale in the cafeteria during lunch from May 14th to May 17th.  To be eligible to purchase a cord, you must have completed 3 credits within your academy and a capstone.  A capstone can be any one of the following: an AP class, a CI class, or a yearlong internship.  Each cord will be $10.

  • Need help with your writing or just a quiet place to work? Come to the GHS Writing Center. We are in Room 2003 every day at lunchtime and on Tuesdays and Thursdays during ShowTime. For your ShowTime pass, stop by Room 2096E any day before or after school.   
  • Come out to the Fredrick Avenue Chipotle Monday May 6th to support National Honor Society.
  • Are you interested in dance?  Come out and see the magical rendition of Alice and wonderland on June 6 after school in the PAC lobby from 6:30-7:30pm.  If you are interested in contributing to the show, see Ms. Walston, Ms. Brown, or Ms. Bledsoe for more details.  There will be signup sheets on the bulletin boards hope to see you there!   
  • Seniors who have earned a Seal of Bi-literacy either by scoring a 4 or 5 on the Spanish or French AP exam or by passing the Seal of Bi-literacy test are eligible to purchase an honor cord for graduation. The cost us $5 and may be purchased from Mrs. Domeshek in 3003 before or after school and during lunch. 
  • Attention students who received a BLUE testing notice! Please remember to bring your own headphones for the PARCC and HSA exams. Bluetooth or wireless devices will not work. You must be able to plug your headphones into the desktop computer or Chromebook. Thank you!

 Help After Prom Raise More Funds for our Kids!

Yes the After Prom Committee is still trying to raise funds to help keep our kids safe! The more we get the more fun we can provide at the event to encourage Juniors and Seniors to stay the entire event.  Join us for two restaurant nights where proceeds benefit the After Prom. Be sure to mention the GHS PTSA After Prom or show the flyer so your meal is counted in our tally.- May 2 from 4-8pm- Ay Jalisco on 355 (across from GHS)- May 6 from 3-9pm- The Habit Burger Grill at Gaithersburg Square


Attention Seniors and Senior Parents!  LIMITED SEATS REMAIN on Buses to DAR/Graduation! TICKETS ON SALE MAY 8th at lunch !There are approximately 35 seats left on the buses to DAR Constitution Hall for Graduation on May 24th.  Tickets are $20 per seat. We will sell on May 8th and May 9th at lunch, in  the cafeteria, first come, first served.

We will be hiking and zip-lining through the rainforest, kayaking, and visiting a butterfly sanctuary.
