 Jazz Up TONIGHT and Help After Prom

SAT School Day is Tuesday April 9th 

SAT School Day is on Tuesday April 9 for any grade 11 student who is interested. Only the “regular” SAT will be given free of charge (no essay or subject tests). If students want to take these versions of the exam, then they need to register and pay for them and take them at an alternate location.
Grade 11 students will not need to register for SAT School Day, as MCPS has centrally registered students with College Board through a bulk registration process. There are a limited number of vouchers for students wishing to take the ACT exam instead.
Parents will need to give consent for their student to participate in the optional questionnaire. The GHS PTSA is pleased to announce we will have our next meeting in Ms. Sliffman's College and Career Center on Tuesday, April 9th at 6:30 pm.  Ms. Sliffman will review what each grade level should be preparing for NOW for life after high school.  She's a wealth of knowledge with an amazing armory of resources!

  • Attention Juniors the deadline to submit the Internship application is past.  Please note that in order for you to be a part of the internship program next year you must have it on your schedule BEFORE the summer break begins! If you have any questions, please see Ms. Shaw in room 3040.
  • Powderpuff has been rescheduled! The game will be TODAY, Wednesday, March 20th at 6pm. Ladies, if you would like to play for your class please contact your staff class sponsor. Freshmen see Mrs. Lunceford, Sophomores see Ms. Lindquist, Juniors see Ms. Anaya, and Seniors see Mr. O'Connell.   
  • Do you have the best family in all of Gaithersburg? March is about the importance of Family Support and to celebrate, Sources of Strength would like you to share a photo of your family! All you have to do is post your photo on Instagram and tag @ghs.o.s and include the hashtage #GHSfamily. Each day this week, Sources of Strength will be picking the funniest picture to receive a gift card. Remember, family does not just include the people you are related to. Please see Ms. Dugger in 2033 if you have any questions! 
  • The CNA application window is officially open.  Please see Mr. Edmiston if you are interested in applying for the summer or fall cohorts and have not yet received an application.  The deadline to submit all application components is April 1st.
  • Seniors, Please take a few minutes to confirm with Mrs. Sliffman, either by email, stopping by, or parent phone call, about your college/university acceptances and scholarships/grant awards as soon as possible. We realize you may not have some answers before early April but please provide as much information now as possible.  Doing this sooner rather than later will make the completion of senior surveys much, much, easier.  Surveys are due by April 25 and will open next week.  Thank you for taking the time to complete this task soon!  
  • Join RISE, a summer program offered to rising seniors and junior’s interested in gaining experience in exciting careers, and industries. Applications season opens March 18 to Wednesday March 27. The website is MCPS-SummerRISE.org.  If you have any questions please see Ms. Sliffman in the College & Career Office.  
  • Attention all students; anyone interested in helping out with the Spring Ball on April 11th there will be an informational meeting in room 1069 during Lunch on March 20th. Please come and find out how you can be part of a wonderful event and earn SSL hours at the same time.
  • Congratulations to all three Gaithersburg Choirs on their performances at this year’s MCPS Adjudications. Our advanced ensembles, Bella Voce and Chamber Singers, both wowed the judges with their performances and both received ‘Excellent’ ratings. Congratulations to all the singers who performed and worked hard for this performance adjudication! 
  • GHS does not have an open lunch, and subsequently, all students are expected to stay in school throughout the entire school day.  Students are not permitted to have food delivered to school, or to be picked up during lunch.  Beginning immediately, GHS will no longer be allowing the delivery of food or drink items to the school.  Thank you for your cooperation.
  • Students interested in coming to the Media Center during ShowTime must obtain a pass ahead of time from the Media Center. Passes are only distributed before school, after school and during lunch.  Students, please do not come between periods, you will be sent back to class.
  • Can’t get enough of the GHS Media center? The Media Center is now open extended hours Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 4 pm. You can also take the media center where ever you go with the Sora student reading app. Download it today to unlock a virtual library filled with eBooks and audio literature.

There will be prizes for the winners! Look for the flyers and posters around the school with QR codes and follow the link to sign-up. On Tuesday, March 26th, bring your Nintendo switch to room 3016 and let’s get ready to rumble! The tournament is free to join!

The GHS PTSA is pleased to announce we will have our next meeting in Ms. Sliffman's College and Career Center on Tuesday, April 9th at 6:30 pm.  Ms. Sliffman will review what each grade level should be preparing for NOW for life after high school.  She's a wealth of knowledge with an amazing armory of resources!

Make sure to attend the two upcoming information sessions being held on  Tuesday March 19, at 7 pm, Parilla Performing Arts Center, Rockville Campus, Montgomery College.

 It's Pi Week!  The GHS Math Department is looking for donations of store bought pies as well as parents wishing to volunteer to assist the Math Department for their end-of-the-week pie sales and give-aways.

  • Donated pies can be dropped off TODAY, this morning 3/15. Please email Mr. Youngdale, email address below, to let him know how many pies you are bringing. Thanks!! 
  • Parents wishing to help on Friday 3/15 should arrive at school 10:30 to 10:45 and meet the Math teachers by the cafeteria. Please contact Mr. Youngdale  jeremy_s_youngdale@mcpsmd.org  or Ms. Sabatino joanna_sabatino-hernandez@mcpsmd.org and let them know if you can help this Friday.

This year’s contest, United We Learn: Schools of the Future, allows students to design their ideal learning space and challenges them to think critically about how their physical environment affects their ability to learn. The Pep Rally is to honor winter and Spring sports.    FRIDAY is Class Color Day – wear you class color and support your grade!  Black is freshman, Green is sophomore, Red is junior, and Blue is senior.  Make sure you are representing!!

GHS INTERNATIONAL NIGHT!! MARK YOUR CALENDARS!  Mark your calendars for Gaithersburg High School's International Night on the evening of April 26, 2019. This evening is a showcase of our diverse student body and all the rich cultures that shape our GHS community.

Bring your family for a two-part event: first, grab your dinner from a selection of food trucks and sample cultural dishes brought in by members of our community. You can peruse the country displays that will be set up outside the PAC as you nosh. Then, once you've learned to say "hello!" in several languages, make your way into the auditorium for an incredible display of our student talent in our International Night show.
Parents are welcome to participate in the preparations! We need community members to help out the night of and to get the word out to the Gaithersburg community. This year’s contest, United We Learn: Schools of the Future, allows students to design their ideal learning space and challenges them to think critically about how their physical environment affects their ability to learn. For more information please see Ms. Nelson in the library. The deadline for entry is March 15th
  • Attention Juniors the deadline to submit the Internship application is past.  Please note that in order for you to be a part of the internship program next year you must have it on your schedule BEFORE the summer break begins! If you have any questions, please see Ms. Shaw in room 3040.

  • The City of Gaithersburg Student Union has organized a fundraiser at Panera MONDAY to help raise scholarship funds for our ESOL students to join the Student Union and get more involved in the community. 
  • Monday starts Pi Day Week! Monday's event is: A Talent Contest... show off your musical, poetic or even comedic skills today at lunch. Meet and perform at the top of the main stairs on the 3rd floor outside of the math department.  Participants will get a ticket for a piece of pie on Friday.  The winner will get to PIE A TEACHER in the face on Friday.  Reminder that tomorrow, we will be on the track for the Pi K.

  • Congratulations to the following participants of the Maryland Culinary Student Invitational on March 12: Cyan Stallworth, Manny Kyler, Lizzie Mc Millan, Marco Calderon Herrera, and alternate Kevin DeCosta. The MPSI is a statewide team culinary and hospitality management competition were students compete for scholarships and the right to represent the State of Maryland at the National Prostart Invitational.

Tickets will be sold Wednesday until Friday at lunch in the cafeteria for $5 and will be $8 at the door.  This year’s theme is Disney, and the contestants have chosen favorite characters for the opening dance. The contestants this year are Gustavo Martinez, Matthew Walsh, Philip Konteh, Eric Hoang, Matthew Watson, Felipe Pineda Ponce, Frank Awode, Joseph Han, Jehlani Thomas, and Daniel Feliciano. Their Mr. Gaithersburg posters will be on display in the hallway outside the main office next week.  
  • The Pride Alliance will have a guest speaker on Friday, March 8th at lunch. All are welcome. 
  • Come support the undefeated ice hockey team in the second round of playoffs this Friday at Cabin John Ice Rink. There is free admission and you don’t want to miss cheering this awesome team on to another victory. Let’s fill the arena for them. Puck drops at 8:15pm.
  • Come out to Chipotle March 11 to support Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science Program from 5 to 9. Please make sure to mention that you are supporting the GHS PLTW Biomedical Science Program at the cashier. These funds would go to the PLTW senior graduation in which seniors would present their very own capstone project .

The GHS Math Department is looking for donations of store bought pies as well as parents wishing to volunteer to assist the Math Department for their end-of-the-week pie sales and give-aways.

  • Donated pies can be dropped off Thursday 3/14 or Friday morning 3/15.
  • Parents wishing to help on Friday 3/15 should arrive at school 10:30 to 10:45 and meet the Math teachers by the cafeteria.

Both at 6:00 pm in the PACParent or Guardian must be present at one of these meeting in order to pick up graduation tickets.  A packet has also been mailed to senior parent/guardian homes. Please be on the lookout for those to arrive soon.


Announcements for March 7

  • Anyone interested in purchasing Spirit wear?  The Booster club will be selling spirit wear on Fridays during lunch in the cafeteria.  Please bring cash or check to purchase your gear.
  • Powderpuff has been rescheduled! The game will be Wednesday, March 20th at 6pm. Ladies, if you would like to play for your class please contact your staff class sponsor. Freshmen see Mrs. Lunceford, Sophomores see Ms. Lindquist, Juniors see Ms. Anaya, and Seniors see Mr. O'Connell.

  • Spring Fling is coming, On March 15th there will be a Spring Fling Throwback dance. Tickets will go on sale March 4th- March 14th. Tickets are $10, if you need a guest approval form go to the front office or room 1069.  
  • Montgomery County Public Schools is launching the third year of its student contest, United We Learn. This year’s contest, United We Learn: Schools of the Future, allows students to design their ideal learning space and challenges them to think critically about how their physical environment affects their ability to learn. For more information please see Ms. Nelson in the library. The deadline for entry is March 15th
  • The City of Gaithersburg Student Union has organized a fundraiser at Panera on March 11th to help raise scholarship funds for our ESOL students to join the Student Union and get more involved in the community. 
  • Attention Juniors the deadline to submit the Internship application is past.  Please note that in order for you to be a part of the internship program next year you must have it on your schedule BEFORE the summer break begins! If you have any questions, please see Ms. Shaw in room 3040.
  • We have a winner for the Pi Day shirt contest.  Alexis Guerrero Montano designed the shirt we will wear on Pi Week. The gold/blue shirt is available for purchase by any staff, student, or community member. It  is available to order now through March 8th. Copies of the order form are given out by math teachers, and are also available in the Math Office.
  • Mr. Gaithersburg 2019 is this Friday, March 8th in the PAC. Doors will open at 7:00 pm and the show will begin at 7:30pm. Please arrive before 7:30pm. Tickets will be sold Wednesday until Friday at lunch in the cafeteria for $5 and will be $8 at the door.  This year’s theme is Disney, and the contestants have chosen favorite characters for the opening dance. The contestants this year are Gustavo Martinez, Matthew Walsh, Philip Konteh, Eric Hoang, Matthew Watson, Felipe Pineda Ponce, Frank Awode, Joseph Han, Jehlani Thomas, and Daniel Feliciano. Their Mr. Gaithersburg posters will be on display in the hallway outside the main office next week.  
  • Gaithersburg High School! Pack your bags! Summer 2020 we are traveling to COSTA RICA. We will be hiking the Arenal Volcano National Park in San Jose, Kayaking on Lake Arenal, Ziplining in the Cloud Forest and enjoying a crocodile jungle safari boat cruise in the Rainforest Adventure Park! Just get your folks to the meeting! We will go over all the details, so your parents won't grill you. When? Thursday, March 7th at 6pm in Room 1158.See Ms. Diaz in Room 2073. Hope to see you there! 
  • The Pride Alliance will have a guest speaker on Friday, March 8th at lunch. All are welcome. 
  • Student Union meets today during lunch in room 1114.  Come for pizza and to learn about upcoming trips & SSL hours.  New students are welcome.
  • PODER will meet today, and every Thursday in Mr. O’Connell’s room, room 3016. This is a great club for young men who are interested in community service, leadership and fellowship. It is a great way to earn SSL hours, make new friends, and make a real difference here in the Gaithersburg community. Come on up to room 3016 and see what it is all about!

  • Friday March 15th is our SPRING Pep Rally!  The Pep Rally will take place in the stadium weather permitting. If it rains, it will take place in the gym. The Pep Rally is to honor Winter and Spring sports.   
  • Come support the undefeated ice hockey team in the second round of playoffs this Friday at Cabin John Ice Rink. There is free admission and you don’t want to miss cheering this awesome team on to another victory. Let’s fill the arena for them. Puck drops at 8:15pm.
  • Come out to Chipotle March 11 to support Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science Program from 5 to 9. Please make sure to mention that you are supporting the GHS PLTW Biomedical Science Program at the cashier. These funds would go to the PLTW senior graduation in which seniors would present their very own capstone project .
  • Sophomores! Juniors! Interested in earning up to 30 transferable college credits while an only upperclassmen at GHS? Then Duel enrollment is the one for you!! Make sure to attend the two upcoming information sessions being held on March 14, at 7:00 at Globe Hall, High Technology and Science Center, Germantown Campus, Montgomery College or Tuesday March 19, at 7 pm, Parilla Performing Arts Center, Rockville Campus, Montgomery College.
